Paying with Clipper
SamTrans accepts the following on a Clipper card:

Cash value: For single rides. Adult Clipper customers get discounts of 50 cents on the Express fare and 20 cents on all other routes. Youth, senior and disabled riders get a discount of 25 cents on the Express fare and 10 cents on all other routes.

SamTrans Local Monthly Pass: Unlimited rides for adults on any local route. Available for sale from the 21st of the prior month through the 15th of the month.

SamTrans Eligible Discount Local Monthly Pass: Unlimited rides for senior and disabled riders on any local route. Available for sale from the 21st of the prior month through the 15th of the month.

SamTrans Youth Local Monthly Pass: Unlimited rides for youth riders on any local route. Available for sale from the 21st of the prior month through the 15th of the month.

SamTrans Express Monthly Pass: Unlimited rides for adults on any Express or local routes. Available for sale from the 21st of the prior month through the 15th of the month.

Caltrain monthly pass (2 or more zones): Unlimited rides for adults on any local route. Available for sale from the 21st of the prior month through the 15th of the month.
Upgrades: Local and Caltrain monthly pass customers can use cash value on Clipper to pay an upgrade on an Express route.
Transferring with Clipper
Clipper knows when to give you free and discounted rides when you transfer.
- AC Transit transferring to SamTrans
- Free local ride or discounted Express ride within 2 hours of boarding AC Transit or Dumbarton Express when using an AC Transit 31-day pass.
- VTA transferring to SamTrans
- Free local ride or discounted Express ride within 2 hours of boarding VTA when using a VTA monthly pass.
